Preserving tradition with modern milling technology
Restoration and reproduction

Europe is the continent with the highest density of World Heritage Sites. But whether it’s cultural heritage, listed buildings or historically sensitive restoration: if wood from historica eras must be preserved or past forms shoule be made visible again, you’ve come to the right place: Maaß & Miszler Milling combines state-of-the-art technology with a deep respect for the original. The process of our support for restoration and reproduction projects starts with the precise scanning of existing elements or by sending us a finished 3D model from relevant professionals. Whatever the case, an exact digital model is essential because it forms the basis for the subsequent milling of the valuable raw material.
Precision for restoration and reproduction
In the CAD system, details are recorded with millimetre precision before the milling robot shapes the workpiece with the utmost accuracy. Thus, every profile, every structure and every ornament can be authentically reproduced – regardless of whether they are individual components or large-scale architectural elements.
Repairing historical elements
Dimensional accuracy and a delicate touch are particularly essential in the field of restoration. When damaged wooden components need to be repaired or parts need to be remade, we work with an accuracy of up to 0.2 millimetres. That is, indeed, equivalent to two thin sheets of paper. Through the precise milling of grooves, tenons or drill holes, new pieces fit seamlessly into the existing element. The result is visually almost indistinguishable from the original. In this way, the historical character is preserved without compromising stability or functionality – a crucial contribution to the sustainable maintenance of beautiful old buildings.
Complete replication of missing components
If an entire architectural element is missing – such as one of two identical shutters on a listed building or a bricked-up door frame – our milling robot ensures an utmost accurate reproduction. Based on templates, photographs or the surviving counterpart, the model is digitally recreated or work is carried out using a supplied model. The highly detailed milling enables reconstructions that correspond visually and technically to the historical original – for example, elements of a Baroque wall panelling could be reconstructed in terms of proportion, depth and surface finish. Only a radiocarbon analysis could then reveal that the wood is significantly younger.
A reliable partner for restorers and heritage conservation
As an experienced partner in the craft sector and heritage conservation, Maaß & Miszler supports restorers, architects and timber craft businesses from digital scanning right through to the finished component. Our aim is to preserve historical heritage whilst fully exploiting the possibilities of modern manufacturing. With our roots in the region, we source our timber from local partners. In demand nationwide, we stand for millimetre-precise accuracy, a deep understanding of craftsmanship and technological perfection – thereby ensuring that a piece of history is always preserved for the future.
